As an artist, I’ve always been drawn to exploring the intersection of technology and creativity. Recently, I dove headfirst into the world of generative AI to produce a new music video, A Ghost in the Machine. I created this music video using the generative AI tools Neural Frames and ChatGPT. Below, I outline the steps of my journey.

Phase 1: Composing the Song

I originally composed A Ghost in the Machine in 2021, one year into the COVID pandemic. It was listed as track #8 on my album, Machines of Sound, released that same year. The song features darker electronic elements and is more experimental than my usual ethereal piano compositions. The title Ghost in the Machine carries multiple layers of meaning and references Ghost in the Shell, a Japanese manga series by Masamune Shirow that explores artificial intelligence and a post-cyberpunk future.

Phase 2: Bringing Visuals to Life

With the rising popularity of ChatGPT and generative AI tools this year, I thought it would be exciting to experiment by creating my first fully AI-generated music video. First, I developed a video script with the help of ChatGPT, crafting a series of text prompts for each scene. I then imported these text prompts into Neural Frames, which used generative AI (via MidJourney) to bring the prompts to visual life.

Here’s the final product:

The Future of Art?

Working with generative AI has been a fascinating experience so far. Tools like Neural Frames and ChatGPT are becoming essential parts of the creative toolkit for artists like me who want to experiment with new ways of expression. I’m excited to share this project and look forward to diving deeper into the world of generative art. Thanks for reading!
